RAM (Random Acces Memory)

RAM stands for Random Access Memory is a computer hardware store that serves a variety of data and program instructions. In contrast to magnetic tape or disk to access the data sequentially, the contents of RAM can be accessed at random, or do not refer to the location of the setting data. Data in RAM is temporary, in other words, the stored data will be lost if the computer is off or the power supply connected to him revoked.

RAM is also commonly referred to as main memory (main memory), primary memory (primary memory), internal memory (internal memory), the main storage (primary storage), memory stick, or a RAM stick. In fact, sometimes people just call it a memory even though there are other types of memory installed in the computer.

RAM is one type of internal memory that supports the processor speed in processing data and instructions. By using the additional RAM in the computer can generate a positive impact on computer performance and speed, although the RAM is not actually determine the speed of the computer.

RAM memory modules are publicly traded with a capacity of 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB and 4 GB.

The types of RAM:

  • DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory)
is the type of RAM that stores each bit of data in a separate capacitor within an integrated circuit. The data contained in it must be refreshed periodically by the CPU to avoid losing them. This makes it very dynamic compared to other memory. In its structure, DRAM requires only one transistor and a capacitor per bit, so it has a very high density.

  •  SRAM (Static Random Access Memory)
is the type of RAM (a type of semiconductor memory) that does not use a capacitor. This resulted in the SRAM does not need to be refreshed periodically as with DRAM. It also once made a speed higher than that of DRAM. Based on the function is divided into Asynchronous and Synchronous.
  •  EDORAM (Extended Data Out Random accses Memory)
is the type of RAM that can store and retrieve the contents of memory at the same time, so he writes the read speed becomes faster. Commonly used as a substitute in the previous PC Fast Page Memory (FPM) RAM.
  • SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory)
is a type of dynamic RAM is faster than the speed capability on EDORAM and consists of 168 tiles pin. RAM is synchronized by the clock system and is suitable for the system bus with speeds up to 100 MHz.

  • RDRAM (Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory)
is one type of synchronous dynamic RAM produced by Rambus Corporation use of 800 MHz Bus Speed, but has a narrow data path (8 bits). RDRAM has a sophisticated memory controller so that not all motherboards can support it. Examples of products that use the 3DFX Voodoo4 series.
  • NV-RAM (Non-Volatile Random Access Memory)
is a type of RAM that uses a lithium battery in it so that the stored data will not be lost even if power supply is turned off.
